Cisco reshape Collaboration and Communications for Mobile Workers with their new Project Squared
Cisco have unveiled their next-generation cloud-based collaboration app Cisco Project Squared promising to reshape the Cisco Collaboration portfolio. Cisco Project Squared combines chat, audio, video, multi-party meetings and content sharing in a single powerful cloud-based app allowing teams to start a room meeting, invite other people inside or outside the organisation simply by entering their name or e-mail address, and just as easily share messages, post files, and start voice and video calls.
What will be the impact of Project Squared on the Collaboration market?
Rob Coleman, managing director of Unifi Communications, one of a handful of Cisco UK Partners who are accredited by Cisco to supply, install, maintain and service their top range of IP Telephony products such as Business Edition 6000, comments: \”Cisco Project Squared is a great idea, because it offers a comprehensive and yet simple service for the final user, without the security, management, reporting and administration issues normally presented by other cloud-based services. It will certainly find a primary role among other Cisco collaboration tools such as Cisco WebEx conferencing, Jabber, and Collaboration Meeting Rooms.\”
Cisco Project Squared is an entirely new app, built from the ground up and represents a much-needed attempt at simplifying collaboration portfolio. Over the last 12 months Cisco have upgraded many of its hardware platforms, improved product interoperability, and greatly improved the interface for Cisco WebEx.
What are the challenges that Cisco Project Squared is promising to overcome?
The concept behind Cisco Project Squared is to provide project teams with a single touch collaboration platform eliminating the traditional issue of project updates: documents being emailed to team members after any meeting, updates are then made and emailed again creating version control problems, projects notes are taken on paper but don\’t get shared. And when people from outside the organization are joining, the traditional issues seem to multiply: some people are in the room, some are connected on tele-conferencing, some by video and some by web conferencing, hence the project leader must now use different collaboration tools.
Cisco Project Squared is created to sit among Cisco’s top range of collaboration products such as Business Edition 6000 and help creating a new way of working. Organisations using Cisco Project Squared can assign every project their own unique \”room\”, a virtual location where all project documents, notes, messages, recordings and all relevant documents are stored and shared, so every worker can join a truly collaborative environment. Furthermore Cisco Project Squared is a complete set of collaboration tools, including messaging, group video, web, and audio conferencing. The product is also designed to integrate into other common collaboration tools, such as calendaring, it is optimized for mobile devices and it is probably be the easiest-to-use collaboration product ever made by Cisco.
At Unifi Communications we believe that Cisco Project Squared represents yet another exciting offer to include among our range of collaboration products. We have made our reputation introducing our customers to Cisco Unified Communications and Cisco Business Phone Systems such as Business Edition 6000 and we are now looking forward to embrace Cisco\’s next move on their collaboration strategy.
