With so much research into the efficacy of hypnosis in medical and psychological worlds, the public is now to be treated to ridiculous tricks performed by people most likely role playing making hypnosis appear to be more magical than empirical.
You are probably aware that ITV will air the programme “You are back in the room “on Saturday of this week which appears to show members of the public being hypnotised. Having been a hypnotherapist/psychotherapist for the last 15 years there is a huge difference between stage hypnosis and advanced hypnotherapy used to help people over come so many different problems they may be suffering, fears, phobias, stress, eating disorders, post-traumatic stress disorders and obesity, to name a few.
The TV programme has been created to make light of hypnosis and the contestants on it, the hypnotist, Keith Barry is said to have implanted ideas into volunteer’s brains and they are under his control but this is tv garbage and could be exploiting vulnerable people. What is a key point here is that you cannot make people do things they don’t want to do, these people on stage want to act and perform, and they are not under his control and will willingly dance around on stage like a chicken if asked of them.

Advance hypnotherapy is a combination of hypnosis and psychotherapy, where a client can be assisted into a trance state of mind to open the client’s subconscious mind to allow the hypnotherapist to resolve a negative thought pattern in the client, i.e. to resolve anxiety or a phobia. etc.
