About the Book:
This is a heartfelt memoir by Casey Hammer, granddaughter of the American billionaire, industrialist, art collector and philanthropist Armand Hammer.
SURVIVING MY BIRTHRIGHT is a story of hope, love, and the reclamation of empowerment. Casey’s is a journey of discovery – recounting many years of blocked memories, violence, nightmares, hazardous behavior, guilt and feeling unworthy of joy or happiness.
By taking responsibility for her life, no longer being prepared to accept the role of victim and by facing the truth, Casey began to heal. Hopefully, her story will inspire many others to do the same.

Excerpt from the book:
“I woke up to a beautiful fall morning. As I lay in bed, I could hear birds singing and wind faintly blowing in the distance. I stretched out my arms and realized that the cats, Bugsy and Barney, were still asleep at my feet. Wrapped inside the comforter, I contemplated the effort it would take to move. I felt all warm and cozy as daylight started to stream through the shutters, like beacons announcing the day’s arrival.
The hardwood floor was cold on the bottom of my feet as I headed for the coffee pot. The cats must have been busy during the night, based on the evidence of toys randomly dispersed along the stairs. I sat at the breakfast bar and pulled out my journal.
As I wrote, I thought again about my life. The memories came back to me one by one, like a movie slowly advancing frame by frame. I could feel my heart start to race and my body become rigid as I remembered the lies, the deceit, and the betrayal.”
