May 06, 2016 — During the past eighteen years, the Future Investor Clubs of America’s (FICA) nationwide financial intelligence training summer camps has an international reputation of providing outstanding curriculum in the classroom, awesome financial field trips and real life financial market experiences. According to FICA’s President and CEO, Mr. Frank Parks, “last summer was no exception especially for students attending the camp held at Manhattan Prep in New York.” Students attending the New York, FICA summer camp financial intelligence training event; had a lifetime of experiences packed into one week. For the students accepted to attend the New York program it was a week they will never ever forget.
Below is a summary of the camper’s curriculum and fun filled week itinerary that kept them on the go. The first day got going early as students gathered at Manhattan Prep to get introduced to each other and started with the FICA Basic Financial Intelligence Training (BFIT) curriculum. The BFIT curriculum would be used throughout the entire week. The BFIT curriculum consists of nine basic financial intelligence training e-learning portals they are: Financial Terminology, Insurance and Banking, Financial Planning, Investment Terminology, Investing In Stocks, Annuities, Bonds, and Mutual Funds, Online Trading and Financial Web-Sites, Career and Credit Management, and Starting An Investment Club.
Once the students got an introduction to the curriculum it was off to their first of many financial field trips for a lunch meeting at the Ambrose Corporation. The Ambrose Corporation is a professional employer organization (PEO) providing outsourced human resources administration, payroll, and benefits services to many of the large and small Wall Street businesses. Ambrose also services clients across the country.
During the lunch meeting hosted by Ambrose CEO, John Iorillo, students got a chance to learn all about the back office operations of companies doing business on Wall Street. Mr. Iorillo, explained to the students the Ambrose business model and how the company had developed an expertise serving financial services, business and professional services, start-up, technology and media companies. He also shared how Ambrose, also serves a growing number of firms in other sectors such as biotech companies, non-profits, consumer brands, and the smaller US divisions of international companies. It was great, as the students got a chance to ask many questions and also take photos.
Next it was off to one of the top financial services companies in the world, New York Life Insurance. What better way to learn about financial services and insurance companies than to actually visit one of the largest financial service providers. During this field trip students learned that since 1845, New York Life has offered life insurance, annuities, long-term care insurance and more. Students also got the chance to tour the building and the New York Life historical museum that provided information on the company’s founders and leaders throughout its entire development.
Then it was back to the classroom for a little more training and discussion on what they had learned on the financial field trips. Class ended around 4pm and the day was not over yet, after a little rest, the students and chaperons all gathered together for dinner and a trip to the world famous Times Square. Once there, students enjoyed a full one hour walking tour of Times Square before heading back to their rooms for a good night’s sleep.
In the morning once again our students got busy in the classroom and during the afternoon they were delighted to get the opportunity to visit the United Nations. Students learned that the United Nations is an international organization founded in 1945 after the Second World War by 51 countries committed to maintaining international peace and security, developing friendly relations among nations and promoting social progress, better living standards and human rights.
The work of the United Nations reaches every corner of the globe. Although best known for peacekeeping, peace building, conflict prevention and humanitarian assistance, there are many other ways the United Nations and its System (specialized agencies, funds and programs) affect our lives and makes the world a better place. Students learned that without a stable global system financial markets would most likely crumble.
The above and following field trips made for an awesome week of financial training. To finish off the week students visited the floor of the New York Stock Exchange; NASDAQ, NBC Studios; American Museum of Finance; South Seaport; a photo opportunity at the Bull Statue; Charles Schwab; and the board room of private equity company of Trian Capital. This once in a lifetime financial training summer camp had participating student from Connecticut, Peter Winans age 13 saying “this is the best camp I have ever attended.”
International student, Anshu Kumar came all the way from the country of Qatar to attend the FICA camp said “what a great camp, it was better than I ever expected, the training, field trips and food was great.” David Katzman, from Washinton, DC came to the camp just to see what it was all about said “I now have a much better understanding of financial services, money and business.” James Roan, attending his 10th camp; but first in New York, said “this was just a wonderful experience, I have absolutely no complaints, I am now heading to college so much better prepared.”
McKeena Klien, a student from Denver, Colorado, attending his second camp and who in the fall will be heading to the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business, took it all in by saying “this camp and training really helped me decide to go to a top business school and to become a Hedge Fund Manager; I just loved everything about it, I want to thank FICA for this great experience.”
