“Getting Away With Murder” by Pat Herbert is published with Andrews UK
A sister’s disappearance is investigated four decades later
About the Book:
In 1913 suffragette Ameline Stroud-Sinclair and her husband disappear from their South London home under mysterious circumstances.
The scene shifts to 1958, where Barney Carmichael, a former juggler turned private detective, is hired by Ameline’s sister to find her.
As the story unfolds between the two decades, we follow the fortunes of an unprincipled parlour maid, an unemployed alcoholic cook and a mysterious gentleman known only as ‘Bob’, all of whom are in some way linked to Ameline’s fate.
Added into the mix, is the ex-juggler’s schizophrenic, knife-wielding wife but what part does she play in Ameline’s story?
About the Author:
Pat Herbert lives in London, England and works as an administrator and receptionist at a private health clinic. She worked previously as PA to the Managing Director of Thomson Books before they were taken over by Penguin Books.

Haunted Christmas
The Possession of November Jones
The Witches of Wandsworth
So Long at the Fair

The Dark Side of the Mirror
Sleeping with the Dead
The Corpse Wore Red
Seeing Double
In her novels, Pat likes to include all the hallmarks of a traditionally British murder-mystery series including quirky characters, dark deeds, humorous misunderstandings, a touch of the supernatural, and cosy cups of tea.
Excerpt from the Book:
“The three men pretended to be afraid of her. “Oh, please, dear lady, do not spank us for being naughty boys,” said the third man. Short of stature and corpulent of frame, Sir Robert Willoughby was the least attractive of the three men but Ameline found she liked him the better for that. But even he looked dangerous tonight.
“All right, we’ll go quietly,” laughed Sebastian, pushing his companions out of the kitchen.
Ameline stared after them, a worried expression on her patrician face. She had never seen her husband, or indeed his friends, as drunk as that before. She opened the larder door and took out the muslin-covered beef and the pickle jar. As she did so, an uneasy feeling crept up her spine.”
