The #GetYourBellyOut campaign has been raising awareness of Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis, more commonly known as Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) for one whole year this March!
The campaign which was founded by four women, all of whom suffer with IBD themselves; Sahara Fleetwood-Beresford from Derbyshire, Gem Willingham from North Wales, Lorna Haymes from Manchester and Victoria Marie from Swansea will be seeing in its 1st Birthday in true, over the top and in your face #GetYourBellyOut style with a 1st Birthday Ball, to be held at The National Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham on March 28th.
The Ball will celebrate the campaigns achievements over the last year and will include a pre drinks reception, auction, raffle, live performance, charity cocktail, food, photograph opportunities, music and dancing and of course a Birthday cake! All proceeds from the evening will be donated to National charity Crohn’s and Colitis UK.
This will without a doubt be the biggest gathering of IBD sufferers and supporters that the IBD community has ever seen, with people travelling from all over the world from as far as the US.
The campaign has achieved so much in just 11 short months including raising over £25,000 for National Charity Crohn’s and Colitis UK, launching a website and merchandise range, campaign and awareness poster distributed in to hospital and GP waiting rooms nationally, gained media coverage, has a Facebook group supporting over 3,000 members, a Facebook page with just shy of 9,000 supporters and has taken Twitter by storm on many occasions during the aptly named Twitter takeovers not to mention the limitless support it has given to thousands of IBD sufferers.
You can visit the website for all of the information on how to join in and support the campaign and ultimately help find a cure for these so far incurable diseases.
#GetYourBellyOut began with one main aim – to raise awareness of IBD but to its loyal supporters it has become much more than that. #GetYourBellyOut has created not just a community but a family that help each other through bad days and build confidence in one another to talk about their disease and feel better about their body image.
If you wish to attend and help raise funds for Crohn’s and Colitis UK, you can visit the Facebook page events section for all information on how to purchase tickets!
