Center for Leadership’s PGD in Management and Leadership is targeted at getting its students ready for a business world where the traditional ways are giving way to the new. One of the important ways in which we prepare our students for the new economy’s challenges is through ‘Personalisation’. This is driven by the question that if each one of our students is different, with different strengths, areas for improvement, and aspirations, then why should the teaching approach be the same for everyone.
While placements is the end outcome, the personalisation begins much earlier, following a systematic and sequential process. The Personalised Placements are preceded by the Personalised Growth Plan and Personalised Mentoring.
Personalised Growth Plan: This plan is initiated as soon as the student starts the course at Center for Leadership. The plan is tailored to the student’s strengths and areas for improvement and is revisited throughout the course for needed changes. Through individual coaching, personality tests, and leadership workshops, we work on leveraging the student’s strengths towards a leadership role. All this is done with the end objective of the career plan in sight.
The Growth Plan also includes creating opportunities for exposure for the students. Kriti Jain from the Founding Batch was keenly interested in the Digital Marketing domain. To enhance her understanding of this dynamic profession, Center for Leadership arranged for her to have a brief stint with Jigyasa Kishore, GM-Enterprise Tech Community, 9.9 Mediaworx Pvt. Ltd. Apart from exploring the B2B digital marketing space, Kriti also gained valuable exposure to the details of client meetings and the intricacies of how an organization tailors its offerings to meet client expectations. Moreover, Kriti also got a chance to experience what it takes to be an effective leader in a stressful, demanding, and client-oriented work environment.
Personalised Mentoring: We strongly believe that mentoring isn’t an exercise where we get an expert, no matter how knowledgeable, to enter into one way communication with multiple students. We ensure 1:1 mentorship by an industry leader. This mentor is chosen through our deep and extensive corporate relationships and the choice aligns with the student’s intended career path. And this mentorship extends far beyond just the short term career goal of a successful placement. The mentor helps the students with growing as an individual and professional and even involves advice on what resources to read outside of the curriculum, clarifying myths, and establishing a network.
These mentors are ever-ready to help their assigned student in both creating learning opportunities as well as guiding them. For example, Abhishek Goswami worked with his mentor, Ms. Sulakshana Pathak, BMW MINI India Head, on a market research project for her firm. Abhishek got an opportunity to evaluate competing brands and also created a survey for target customers. This expanded his knowledge of many aspects and industries including Marketing, Auto Industry, and Luxury Goods.
Personalised Placement: The culmination of the entire Personalisation exercise is the placement. We keep in mind the students goals, interests and capabilities to plan their tranformational journey. Roles and companies are then hand-picked for them based on their specific goals. Center for Leadership is not an institution where dozens of recruiters come to bid for students. We follow a very targeted approach by identifying – with the student – which companies would serve his or her career goals in the best manner. We then work on getting the candidate and the recruiter together for the placement discussion, thus ensuring that the students do not waste time chasing opportunities that aren’t best suited for them.
The experience of the Founding Batch towards this Personalised Placement approach and the feedback from their mentors and faculty has been encouraging. It has also helped immensely those students who were clear about their industry choice from an early stage but providing them opportunities to stay focused.
