About Artist Allan Banford:
Visual artist and part of the New European Painting that emerged in the second half of the twentieth century Allan has produced abstract as well as music and video installations. His art follows the examples of Gerhard Richter and Francis Bacon in undermining the concept of the artist’s obligation to maintain a single cohesive style.
His works directly respond to the surrounding environment and use everyday experiences to visually represent them. Often these are framed instances that would go unnoticed in their original context but by applying the abstraction by his laceration technique, he finds that movement reveals an inherent awkwardness, a conceptualisation that echoes coherency.
His works don’t reference recognisable forms at first glance but the result is deconstructed to the extent that the meaning is shifted and a logical interpretation becomes multifaceted by questioning the concept of space and perspective. He creates intense personal pieces, masterfully completed by his rules and omissions, acceptance and refusal, luring the individual’s perception to flow.
His works are being confronted as aesthetically resilient, thematically interrelated elements of memory and reality. Allan was the recipient of the inaugural World Citizen Artist Award in conjunction with Belgravia Gallery and Play for chance foundation commemorating the first anniversary of Nelson Mandela’s death and legacy. His art works are included in numerous private and corporate collections, including The Perspective Scenarios triptych resembling Joseph Mallord William Turner landscape lighting style, acclaimed by critics and public alike.
