MUMBAI: CBI has been granted permission by Mumbai court to question Indrani Mukerjea, her husband Peter, her former husband Sanjeev Khanna and former driver Shyam Rai – the four accused in Sheena Bora murder case – for ten days in the jail.
Indrani Mukerjea’s daughter from her previous relationship, Ms. Sheena Bora was reportedly murdered in April 2012 but the case came to light only by August 2015.
CBI has already filed a charge sheet in the case and now it told the court that it wants to gather more evidence and find out if any other people were involved in the incident. CBI then submitted an application to question the accused again. The court accepted CBI’s application.
CBI also requested to unlock Peter’s phone which is protected by his thumb impression. Peter’s lawyer then argued about his application to get the call detail records of his phone. The court informed him that it need time to pass such an order.
Peter also tried to obtain permission from the court to watch the preview of Dark Chocolate, a Bengali film which is based on the case. However, the bench headed by justice SC Dharmadhikari refused his plea on an absence of a valid reason.
Peter and Mukerjea met at the court after about six months and when they waited outside the court for more than two hours they never exchanged a single word too.
Indrani’s former driver, Rai, also filed an application asking to be shifted to another jail from the Arthur Road prison in Mumbai as he was under stress at the current location. The judge responded by saying that it is an administrative issue and directed him to contact the jail authorities.
All the four accused are to be in judicial custody till March 17 when Indrani’s advocate Mahesh Jethmalani is likely to argue on her bail application.
