Businesses fall or succeed on the back of the quality and continual improvement of their products. It is essential that they can prove the products performance to their customers and back-up any sales claims. This is where research and development becomes the vital cog providing a stable and solid foundation on which the business can build.
Last year saw a fall of 4% in research and development by UK businesses and 51% of the investment was made by foreign companies. Investment by UK businesses is below the European average. (Office of National Statistics 22nd November 2013) This is a worrying trend for the future of UK plc.
Bucking this trend is Magic Thermodynamic Box Ltd, a manufacturing and distribution company of renewable energy and energy saving products for the domestic market. They are based in Essex and produce a Thermodynamic hot water system and a Heating Box which enhances existing wet central heating systems and reduces the customer’s energy bill. These are unique products and therefore rigorous testing and publication of performance data is essential.
The Magic Thermodynamic Box Ltd has doubled their research budget this year to fund independent tests on their products by Universities and UKAS accredited laboratories. These have included; Enertek International in Hull (an independent company offering innovative service to the gas, oil, renewable industry with laboratories accredited to EN17025 standard) who carried out a series of 11 tests on the Heating Box and Trinity College Dublin University (founded in 1592 and in 2011/12 secured E65m in research income) who tested the Heating Box in their fluids department over a period of a year. In addition Cambridge Refrigeration Technology (founded in 1937 as part of Cambridge University and today an independent research development and environmental test organisation) tested the Thermodynamic water heating system in their climate chamber at three regulated temperatures. These professionally accredited tests have given the products credibility in the market place and helped the company to continue to develop.
The philosophy of the Magic Thermodynamic Box Ltd is to continually improve their products and testing is an essential element of this. They also volunteer to carry out case studies in customers own homes to assess product performance and the benefits accrued. The test results are published on their website and trade customers can contact Malcolm Stratford in the R&D Department on 0844 967 1500.
