With spring fast approaching, all the celebrities made sure they were right on trend. Cut-out dresses and tops were a huge hit and paired with simple jewellery, the women all looked fabulous. Kate Beckinsale was leading the fashion pack in a cut out Jenny Packham dress, following closely by Margot Robbie in Paper London and Sophie Turner in Mary Katrantzou. On the other hand, the men looked sophisticated in grey or blue suits and for those who were feeling a little brave, tartan was the pattern of choice. Will Poulterwas flying the fashion flag for the men and looked dapper in a Prada suit.
As always, celebrities loved all the Tresor Paris jewellery including Best Female Newcomer award winner Margot Robbie loved the Hearts and Arrows Blandice Argent earrings, necklace and ring. Even Steve Coogan couldn’t resist and was pictured wearing a pair of Dualité Blanc earrings.
Once celebrities had their turn on the red carpet, it was time to enter the Great Room for the ceremony, which was presented by Actor James Nesbitt, who played Bofur in The Hobbit series, and surprised everyone by opening the show with a song.
Arnold Schwarzenegger, winner of the Empire 25th Award for The Action Hero of Our Lifetime award, gave the greatest speech of the evening during which he described how he was rejected at every step he took to become a bodybuilder and actor, only to defeat all the obstacles to become a highly successful actor all over the world. Other big winners of the night include Aiden Turner (Best Newcomer), Margot Robbie (Best Newcomer), Emma Thompson (Best Actress), Gravity (Best Film and Director).
As expected, the crowds of fans lining the street to get a glimpse of the numerous celebrities went wild when Tom Cruise turned up. Ever the gentleman, Tom took time to greet everyone and was extremely chatty with all the interviewers. Tom was there to collect his Empire 25th Award for The Legend of Our Lifetime.
All guests went home with a goody bag full of luxuries at the end of the evening, including novels by Lawrence Block, Jeffery Deaver and Joe Hill, edible treats including chocolate, popcorn and cereal bars, mascara, cleansing oil and face wash.
